In Oak Class this week we investigated effective addition and subtraction equations, and learnt how to apply these within one-step word problems. Our key vocabulary for this week involved: greater than, less than, subtraction, whole, part, equation and effective strategy. During our talk tasks we learnt how to use this vocabulary to describe the equation to our learning partners. We have then set ourselves a challenge in which we had to read a word problem, decide whether its addition or subtraction and apply the strategy to solve it. The children challenged themselves to solve ten of these word problems correctly within the independent task and I am pleased to say that their challenge has been met!
