Note from Mrs Greenfield and Miss Street

I am pleased to let you know that the Park persistent absentee percentage (children whose attendance is below 90%) has dropped from a concerning 13% to 9% which is close to the national figure of 8.7%. This is great news and I have every hope that this figure will continue to fall.

We are excited to let you know that the PTFA have agreed to fund new books for the library as well as new book shelves for the library and the class book corners. The books should arrive next week. We plan to have a new library launch so that you can come to see the excellent new range of fiction books bought using money raised by you. Thanks again!

Congratulations to anyone who received a reading buddy last week. I’m sure they’re settling in well to their new routines at home. Make sure they do their job to listen carefully to you when you are reading and that they remind you to bring in your reading record every Monday, Wednesday and Friday!

An excellent start to the challenge of eighty one days straight reading has begun in Years Three to Five! Remember to choose books to read that are interesting to you, the days will fly by and you’ll be at your movie marathon before you know it!

Cressida Cowell, who is the Children’s Laureate, is speaking at the Southbank Centre on Monday 17th February 2020. She will be talking about creativity and how she started writing books when she was about nine years old: How to Train a Dragon. There are still seats available if you consider this a great half term treat!

Our reading volunteers have made such an impact with reading that we would like to extend an invitation to anyone (a DBS is necessary, you’ll need to see the office to arrange one) who would like to join this elite group of helpers. Reading volunteers usually help one hour before the end of the school day, listen to individual children read and make a few notes that helps to inform some next steps for each reader. Please see Liz Greenfield if you are keen!

Please take a look at the school website as the new staff bios are live. You will also find the curriculum letters on the class pages.

Finally, we are desperate for a parent to volunteer every Friday to walk to swimming with the Year Three children. Please let a member of staff know if you can help.
