Plants in science in Year Three: How plants grow

The children in Year Three are studying plants this half term. This week they following instructions of how to grow potatoes.

They separated compost into small box-like containers whilst planting their seeds, after which they made sure that the soil was moist by watering it. They then placed the containers near the sunlight to allow their seedlings to grow. Over the next week or two, they are going to record their observations regularly in a ‘Potato Diary’. The diary will include comments and descriptions of what is observed, photographs of their plants, labelled diagrams and tables of data collected.

Given the right growing conditions, the plants should be ready to be carefully removed from their jars and planted into our school vegetable garden. Happy growing Year Three!
